GUEST MUSICIANS
Recent guest musicians were the duo of Steve and Carol Robson of Fool's Gold (photo left) who presented a musical and visual journey along the banks of the River Tyne - a performance of folksongs intertwined with Tyneside history had members enthralled. Another duo were Eddie Gratton and accompanist George Hetherington (photo right). Eddie vividly told the fascinating life story of Paul Robeson interspersed with songs from his repertoire which everyone present thoroughly enjoyed.
Our weekly speakers cover a broad range of diverse topics. One such speaker was David Balls who introduced members to the Tyneside pottery which made Malingware ceramics for two hundred years from the banks of the Tyne before closing in 1963.
The next week featured a talk by the Durham Chief Constable, Mike Barton. Following the 2014 inspection of Durham Police by HMIC which rated the force as outstanding, Mike Barton spoke to members about his approach to policing in Durham and the challenges ahead for the force.

The club recently had a successful visit to the East Durham Heritage and Lifeboat Centre at Seaham Harbour.
The Centre houses the restored Seaham lifeboat, the George Elmy, which was tragically lost on the night of 17th November, 1962. The centre's exhibition facility also has displays relating to the maritime, industrial and social heritage of the Seaham area.
Members also took the opportunity to view the Marina and Seaham's icon, "Tommy". See the Events page of our website for futher visits.
